N-Deal: What a Big Deal!

July 22, 2008

“…That the government of the people,by the people and for the people shall never cease to exist”

Who on earth in his right mind believes in this bull? I am sorry, Mr. Lincoln, but you have not seen India. This government, or the next, as the result of todays trust vote does not really believe in it.
And with what seems to be coming out in media is that the present political quagmire is drenched in the word ‘deal’.

N-deal, 25crores per MP deal,independent state deal, good deal,bad deal, ‘a-wink-here-a-wink-there,give-me-the-power-I-am-here” deals.

For the disclosure, let me say two things. I support the N-Deal, whole heartedly and fully. But I am not at all, bothered about this trust vote thingie, for the N-Deal to go through.
Let me be absolutely clear, this trust vote is not going to matter if the N-Deal is put into motion or not.

Yes, you heard me right. It doesnt even matter. What follows is to a lot of extent speculative information, spoken in hushed corridors of power in New Delhi.
And no, I don’t have any spies inside Delhi, but it has sort of become a half open secret, for those who have been even half aware of the noise around.
It is in entirety a whole range of different opinion, why exactly is UPA dying to have the majority.

1. From highly places sources in Delhi, the trust vote today has become a ‘dead rubber game’. The N-Deal has already ben settled off by the government. This decision was taken long
ago, when Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh saw the government in an extremely precarious position. Estimated window must have been May-June, when the agreement went through
under hand. On July 17, Rahul Gandhi has gone to this effect to say, nuclear Deal is more important than government. I read it as N-Deal stays, Government stays or not.

2. BJP too knows this, and seemingly has turned away from this stalemate by openly declaring, that it doesn’t want to destabilise the government but it wants to defeat it.
The reason for the apparent need to defeat arises to give UPA a bloody nose and a humiliation worth the scale, only so that, it is able to clinch a moral high ground.

3. UPA badly wants to win this game of trust vote just to hide this fact that it has already pulled the rabbit out of the hat. This victory of trust vote will allow it to
hide its ‘conjuring’ act effectively.

4. According to confidential industrial sources, a huge number of heavyweights have personally swung their weights behind PM. Which automatically, confirms a significant amount of money to have changed hands

5. And lastly, the IAEA document was confirmed to be sent to Vienna, even before Left withdrew their support. The PM to this effect said that, India will go with IAEA soon. The next day, IAEA analyses it, and the day after puts it on their webpage.
Bureaucratic bearings moving this fast. Whoa! (Not on the Indian side, but on the Vienna side)

5.a What does this mean, when I say “The opposers will thank us”. Notice the word ‘will’. Yes in this statement alone, I am reading a lot, but at times like these, it helps.

Win or Lose, Stay or Go, the N-Deal is passed. I can assure you that, for Congress would not have gone ahead with this huge risk. And so many variables unknown, almost 51-60 to be precise 🙂

Visakh has reported that it has by 3.25 p.m 275 MPs voting for the deal. The deal will go through, primarily becasue when each and every MP has a price and a cheap one that too, for a party in power its fairly easy to broker a deal like this. A 100 crores shaved from here, a 200 crores pruned from here, and you have got yourself the majority. But what is interesting is that, the morning after the night.

1. Industries like Capital Goods,Steel should see a huge uprise. Long LNT,Long JSW,Long HCC

2. Specialized industries like SEC Industries,Walchandnagar Engineering,ROLTA which supplies coolants will see a major upside

3. After this a slew of reforms will come out of the stables of the government and hopefully, coupled with August plans of FII should lead to a good bull run.

Update: UPA wins the trust vote: 275 to 256 against. “I like that” 🙂
